Salem and her wife, author and graphic designer Ann McMan, collaborated on the novel Hoosier Daddy, which was a Lambda Literary Award Finalist in 2014. SALEM WEST is the publisher of Bywater Books, and a Trustee of Lambda Literary. An award-winning graphic designer, she resides in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Her novel, Backcast, was a 2016 IPPY medalist, and her novel, Hoosier Daddy, was a 2014 Lambda Literary Award finalist. She is a four-time winner of the Golden Crown Literary Award.
